We need stories
to understand ourselves.
Autumn Lee Withers is an American screenwriter, novelist, actress, and story coach.
She has written eight television pilots and four feature films across romantic comedy, women’s history, and psychological thriller. Her female-driven work has been optioned and commended by Screencraft, Austin Film Festival, Sundance Episodic Lab, NBC, and HBO. Most recently, she was tapped to co-adapt Gail Reitano's book Italian Love Cake.
Her first novel, The French Arrangement, follows an American cookbook writer whose journey across France leads her to the most intoxicating love of her life. It's a story about the mothers who shape us, the lovers who rearrange us, and the radical act of choosing pleasure over permission.
A graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts and the University of Georgia, Autumn began her artistic career as a professional dancer, performing on Broadway, with contemporary dance companies, for pop artists, and as a Radio City Rockette. She later appeared in nearly four dozen television and film roles, including Modern Family, FBI: Most Wanted, and Avalanche, which she also co-produced.
She divides her time between Paris and Los Angeles, where she consults for studios, literary agencies, entrepreneurs, and writers, helping them uncover the emotional core of their stories while strengthening structure, voice, and commercial positioning.
“GRITS is one of those rare scripts, in my opinion, that successfully marries really credible, finely drawn characters with wild n' crazy secrets and soap. And obviously, the world and atmospherics are such a draw.”
